Fashions for Paws

This is an excerpt from my friend Toby's (pictured) Mom of Pamela's Punch. I thought it would be a good one to pass on to my Dog Daycare friends.

Calling all animal lovahhhhs… The Washington Humane Society always produces unique and fun events in which to participate, but two that I especially love are coming up soon: The 6th Annual Sugar & Champagne and The 2nd Annual Fashion for Paws.

Hold the evening open for Saturday April 12th. Fashion for Paws is DC’s answer to the episode where Carrie Bradshaw, Mayor Ed Koch and Heidi Klum strutted the catwalk on Sex and the City (minus the panties and the fall Carrie so elegantly displayed). Basically, WHS asks honorary DCist’s, as well as movers, shakers, media types, socialites and those whom you have probably seen gracing a few glossy magazine pages, to walk the runway with their pooches (or borrowed pups). Now, before you roll your eyes - remember, these “models” do not just get to play Gisele for a night. The models have to raise money for the WHS.

Last year, the models’ (30 - 40 of them) goal was to raise $3,000 each. Winners (male and female) earn the title of “Model Washingtonian of the Year”. The money goes to The Good Home Guarantee which is one of the WHS’s programs that enables this non-profit to ensure every animal finds a home. That is one of the great things about supporting the WHS (remember, they were the ones who worked to get the Dalai Lama to the N Street Village) - in their space, they are a very well run organization with great purpose and a wonderful staff. You have to know these people have great heart to see these abandoned and abused animals brought to their shelters every day.

This year, the event will be held at the Italian Embassy and will feature some of last year’s swanky strutters as well as some interesting newcomers. Who? you ask? You will just have to come and see!
